Herman and Jennie lived in St. Peter and Minneapolis MN, where he attended Hamline Univeristy before moving to South Dakota around 1904. They settled in Sioux Falls.
Herman began his ministry after the family moved to Alcester SD in 1911. He was a Methodist minister in Chester, Oldham, Colton and Junius SD.

Herman was a jeweler, optician and a photographer, and became a Methodist minister after being converted at a revival meeting Jul 16, 1911. He performed the service to marry his daughter Leila to Ernest N. Feind, Jun 22, 1922. Wedding Picture.
