John's children by his first wife were brought up by John's parents, Robert (1652?-1715) and Deborah (1655?-1740).
When John's father died in 1715, his dwelling, barn, and homestead were appraised at 350 pounds. None of this was willed to John, though his eldest son, but instead to his uncle Benjamin and his three aunts, and John's son Robert. Excerpts from Beverly in 1700 by Sidney Perley.
