Before Ernest turned 16, his father and older brother had died, leaving him the oldest male on the farm. Walter and Alice eventually ran the farm most of the century, before transfering to their long-time hired hand and neighbor.

A great grandchild of Rosa's next younger sister Flora and Edward George Arnold (1875-1951), Kristi Noem, was elected 33rd Governor of South Dakota in 2018 and served until 2025 when she was sworn in as head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under President Trump to oversee his goal of the mass deportation of illegal immigrants, which often bypassed the "due process rights" for all legal U.S. residents who were not criminals or even accused of a crime, a protection of the U.S. Constitution. The Trump administration vowed to continue the "reign of terror" through 2026 but in Jan 2026, Kristi was replaced after two tragic events in which a non-immigrant U.S. citizen was shot and killed by DHS employees while protesting, and after it was learned that DHS spent hundreds of millions of dollars on self promoting ads and luxury jets without approval from Congress or the President. When she left that office, DHS funding had been cutoff by Congress resulting in thousands of TSA agents, responsible for keeping airline travel safe were forced to work with paychecks. She was born Kristi Lynn Arnold in 1971 in Watertown SD. Her paternal grandparents were 50% German (Robish) and up to 50% French (Arnold), and her great-great-grandfather emigrated from Germany in Mar 1847.
