Robert McCall,
son of John and Helen Moore McCall, was born in Antrim County, Ireland in 1751.
In 1773, he married Elizabeth Aiken. Their first child Margaret (Peggy) was born
January 12, 1775. In that same year the family emigrated to America, coming up the
Chesapeake Bay into Pennsylvania and settling in the area of Gettysburg.
Robert is listed in the D.A.R. Index.
Children born in Pennsylvania
were: William (b. 1776); Samuel (b. 1779); and John
(b. 1780). About 1781 the family moved to Henry County, Virginia (now Franklin County),
near the present town of Rocky Mount, Virginia, where the following children were born:
James (b. 1782); Elizabeth (b. 1784); Robert (b. 1789); twins, Nancy and
Jane (b. 1790);
Henry (b. 1792); and Alexander (b. 1794).
Robert, with all his family
except William moved to Burke County, North Carolina about 1800, settling on the
Catawba River near the present Caldwell County line. Robert was a Methodist
class leader both in Ireland and America. He and his family were long active in
the affairs of Littlejohn Methodist Church. Robert, his wife, and several of
their kin, are buried in the middle of the church yard. Robert McCall died in 1819.
Robert and Elizabeth were the
progenitors of a large family. They and their descendants have played an important
part in the life of the country and are connected by marriage to many well-known
families.
Their daughter, Margaret,
married John Shell in 1805. Their children were: William married Cynthia Davis;
Elizabeth, married Franklin McCall; Margaret, married William Braswell; Nancy,
married Mathew Setzer; John, died young; Robert, married Partenia Baker; Julia,
married Henry Bowman; J. Wesly, married first Elizabeth Kincaid, second Lucinda
Glass, third Elizabeth Bush; and Azor, married first Jane Reid, second Elizabeth
Coleman.
William McCall married Mildred
Holland November 11, 1799 and remained in Virginia. Their children were: Peter H.,
married Zelphenia Hodges; Robert H., married Elizabeth Gilbert; Jane, married
William A. Ball; Lydia, married Charles Patterson; Mary L., married Stephen Smith;
Thomas died young; and William S., married Martha Jane Smith.
Samuel married Sarah Shell in
1806. Their children were: John, married Isabel Holt; Robert H., married Kathrine
H. Gillespie; Elizabeth S., married George Arney, Jr.; James W., married Louisa
Brown; Samuel Alexander, Jr., married Barsheba Baker; Sarah Eliza, married John
Warren Allen; Katherine M., married William Aiken McCall; Washington W., married
Martha M. (Patsy) Suddeth; Mary A. (Polly), married William Johnson Puett; and
Margaret, married William M. Barber. John married Pheobe (sic) Smith in 1808.
Their children were: Elizabeth, married
Benedict Bristol; Lydia Noama, married
James Asbury Puett; Jennie, married first ______ McGilliard, second _____ Ouckworth;
Lucinda, married David Mace; Sara A. (Sally), married Joseph Rust; Elmira,
married Henry Logan Dellinger; Amelia Abigail, married Stephen Ross;
Margaret Adaline never married; Mary, married Jacob Deal Jr.; and John Henry
went west and was married twice.
James married Kattie Kincaid
in January, 1830. Their children were: Robert R., married Myra Berry;
Nancy Virginia (Jennie). married first _____ Berry, second William Sparks;
Elizabeth, married Julius P. Smith; Martha Carolyn, married Jacob Anderson Bush;
Margaret M., married Alfred Bradshaw; Sidney, married Mary Perlina Bradshaw; and
Jane Ann, married George Carroll.
Elizabeth married Andrew H.
Tuttle January 31, 1809. Their children were: Lucius, married Sarah Evaline Sanders;
Andrew H., single; Benedict Marcus, married Mary Ann Cochran; Robert Goines,
married Lucinda Puett; Margaret Maria, married James Courtney; Nancy Caroline,
married Andrew Washington Hood; and William Anson died young.
Robert II married Lydia Gillespie
in 1818. They had one child, William Aiken.
Jane married
Benedict Bristol in 1810. Their children
were: George, married Nancy Kincaid; Dacia, married James Hood; Emeline, married
David Hood; Nancy Caroline, married Marcus A. Tuttle; Abigail, married Milton W.
Kincaid; Margaret Delight, married Elisa P. Kincaid and (or) Asbury Puett; and
Clara, married Charles P. Evans.

John McCall and Phoebe Smith) and they

Henry married Jane Rector in
1838. Their children were: Martha E., married first James N. Wise, second James Ollis;

married Martin L. Dale.
Alexander married Mary Cryder
in 1812. Their children were: Elvira, married David Durkins: Henry died young:
Perline, married Rubin Brooksher; Adaline, married Lloyd Brooksher: Miria,
married James Mahoney; William , married Sophonia Corpening; Alexander,
married Mary Hale: Mary, married __ Gault: Emily, married ___ Barnes: and
Jennie died young.

Katherine, married James Brown; Robert, married Katherine Gillespie; William,
married Anna Wiseman; and Miria, married Joseph Wilson.

Miria, second wife of Milton Minish: John W., married Alaska Lonnon; James L.,

Charles S., married first Lena Frances Cox, second Sadie Seals Mills Cora married

married Betty Cleveland; Clyde N., married Joan Evans. Charles W. McCall married
Dorothy Wilkie May 11, 1941. Their two children are: Charles William, Jr.,
married Rebecca Proffitt June 27, 1965 and they have Kelly P. and Robin W.
John Mark married Carol Voyda July 18, 1970 and they have Kevin Bruce and Wendy Lee.
