Franklin Co. MS was formed on Dec 21, 1809 from the eastern part of Jefferson Co. and parts of Amite, Wilkinson and Adams Counties (see present day map for location).
St. Helena Parish LA was founded in 1810 (see present day map for location), and borders Mississippi.
In 1840 in Franklin Co. MS, "Caroline Hollaway, nee Porter, wife of James Holloway" was listed as one of the heirs of the estate of Nancy Proter, Dec'd [Hendrix, Miss. Court Records..., Drawer 73, Case #412].
In the 1841 Franklin Co. MS Census, page 5, second to last entry, was household of "J L Holaway" [James Lee] with 1 male and 1 female.
Next to him was brother "George Holaway" with 5 males and 3 females.
Next to George was brother "Robert Holaway" household had 3 males and 2 females.

According to W. W. Lambright's History of Franklin County, Mississippi From 1809-1899: "Among the first settlers of the county were John Porter, ..., John Ford, father of Mr. Jessie Ford, ... Joseph Porter [MSGW, website].
Ashley Co. AR was founded in 1848 (see present day map for location), and borders Louisiana.
Portland AR is still a very small town though it was incorporated in 1893. (see Map of Ashley Co. AR ).
After brothers George and Robert both died (1845-46), James Lee was granted guardianship of Robert's daughter Amanda Jane (born 1836), and George's sons James M. (1841) and Porter Marcus Lafayette (1844). Porter is listed as "Peter M.L.", age 7 born in MS, in the 1850 (Nov) Census for Union Twp. Ashley Co. AR. In the 1860 (Jul) Census from the same place, "Porter M.L. Halloway" is listed as being aged 16 at School [M.L. Ragland, pp. 9-10].
The orphan James M. enlisted in Arkansas 3rd Infantry C.S.A. on May 20, 1861 and died Jul 10, 1861 near Richmond VA in one of the first Civil War battles, Bull Run. His brother Porter M.L. also enlisted the same day in the same company.
James was a large plantation owner in Hamburg AR.
Son Willie's eldest daughter Clyde (1885-1972) and James' son John each married children of Allen Wesley Austin (1840-1917). Clyde married Benjamin Hill Austin (b. 1881), and in 1889 John married Sallie Edna Austin (b. 1869). In 1907, Willie would marry another Austin child, Lou "Ella" W. Austin (b. 1872), after his first wife died.
