in 1728 from parts of Essex, King and Queen, and King William counties
(see present day map
for location). Culpeper County Virginia was formed in 1748 from Orange Co. as one of the larger counties in VA, lying between the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west and Rappahannock River to the south and east (see present day map for location). Geographically, Culpeper Co. had previously been a part of Spotsylvania Co.. |

John served in the Revolutionary War. He enlisted by Apr 1777, reported sick
then sent to Philadelphia, and in Apr 1778 his name appeared on Apr 1778
muster roll (dated May 2, 1778). He served under Capt. John Holcombe's company,
and then Capt. Thos. Ridley's Co. in the 4th VA Regiment. His pension record
listed "his widow's name as Elizabeth" [Kinstler, "Pvt. John Holloway Sr.",

Clark Co. KY was formed in 1792, the year John likely married his second wife
Elizabeth. It was formed from parts of Fayette and Bourbon counties of VA before
