In 1979, George received his M.B.A. in Operations Management from the University of Rochester, Rochester NY, which was named the William E. Simon School of Business in 1986. He was the U.S. Treasury Secretary from 1974 to 1977.
From 1979 to 1982 George worked as an internal consultant in the Industrial Engineering department of Banker Trust in lower Manhattan, primarily assigned to the bank's Securities Operations Department at 16 Wall Street, which was directly across from the New York Stock Exchange. However, the IE consultants were based in one corner of the 15th floor of the 39-story headquarters at 130 Liberty Street, and directly facing the South Tower of the World Trade Center. From New Jersey, commuting, whether by bus/subway or train under the Hudson River, required passing through the depths of the World Trade Center.

In the 1980's most of the largest US banks were headquartered in New York City. Bankers Trust was usually ranked 8th in size until it became part of the German bank Deutsche Bank in 1998.
On Sep 11, 2001 the World Trade Center towers were attacked and brought down by terrorists, killing one inside the former Bankers Trust headquarters and damaging it to the extent that it was never reoccupied. From 2007 to 2011, it was carefully demolished and g; there was some worry about asbestos, and later it was discovered that personal items and human remains from the towers had fallen on the roof, providing DNA to continue identifying more 9/11 victims, which continues decades later. On the site was built the new 5 World Trade Center.

A lottery, at $5,000 per entry, was held at the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center in 2003 after construction had reached just the 7th Floor of the 31-story tower.
In 2004, the WaterGarden Condominium, the first residential building in downtown Fort Lauderdale, opened. Situated on both Las Olas Avenue and the New River, it was touted as one of the "great success stories in the history of South Florida Real estate". Demand for units was so high, it "resulted in over $80 million in condominium sales in just four days" [Minto Communities Co. brochure, 2004].
