Middlesex Co. VA was formed in 1669 from a part of Lancaster Co. Middlesex County
was first part of York County. The first building at Christ Church Parish, Middlesex,
was erected about 1666. The present one was erected in 1712. About 1840,
the church was restored. Another Christ Church existed across the Rappahannock River
and was part of what was called Christ Church, Lancaster. |

John was a planter, selling 50 acres of land in 1724 for tobacco. Son John Jr.,
was a bricklayer. He married Mary Gest and they had two daughters in 1745 and 1746,
but he died in 1747. |

In 1740, John's son William, aged about 11, was orphaned and bound out to
James Daniel Jr., and in 1744, bound out to Robert Daniel. |

Son Garritt eventually moved to NC. He was on a 1777 tax list, and in the Nash District
of Caswell Co. was listed as insolvant in Jul 1787. |

Son William may have owned land in Burke Co. NC, because his son Reuben received
a land grant in Burke Co. Oct 9, 1782/3 for 172 acres bordering the land of a
William Guthrie. |
