In 1852, Sabra's parents moved the family westward to Ohio. County land records indicate that other Graves, possibly relatives of mother Mary, were already landowners. In 1854, Mary and Irwin purchased 50 acres in Rochester Township, Lorain County OH, 12 miles south of Oberlin. Irwin and Mary sold their property on Sep 29, 1860.
In Jun 1861, Sabra, recently widowed, and her parents and brother William, moved from Ohio west to Le Sueur Center, Cordova Township, Minnesota as pioneers in an area known as the "Big Woods" because usable land had to be cleared of thick forests. Notes describing the trip and pioneer life , from letters of Sabra's daughter Mary Perry White.
