Thomas owned land adjoining that of James Taylor (1635-1698), a wealthy and powerful leader of King & Queen County. On Oct 20, 1689 Taylor was involved in a land patent of 209 acres in St. Stephen's Parish, "on the North side of Mattapony River, beginning below James Taylor's plantation, ... to Thomas White's." Son Thomas, Jr. named one of his sons James Taylor White shortly after the death of James Taylor.
Dedication of Memorial Tablet to James Taylor, June 6, 1933 at the King and Queen County courthouse.
King and Queen County Virginia was formed in 1691 from New Kent County. Map of Virginia about 1676 shows the location of New Kent County between the York and James Rivers.
Surry County was chartered in 1652, formed from James City County, south of the James River. See present day map of counties showing location of Surry County Virginia.
Caroline County VA was formed in 1727 from northern and western parts of King and Queen, King William and Essex counties. See present day map for location of Caroline Co.
Daughter Rebecca may be the Rebecca White who married John Chissum, who died by Feb 1742. They had a son John, Jr. b. 1741. On Feb 24, 1742, in Orange County, Rebecca was made administratrix of his estate. A William White, possibly grandson William White, was made administrator of her estate on Jul 24, 1746.
Thomas mentioned a sister-in-law Elizabeth Ruffin in his Will dated May 7, 1694. Wife Phyllis was to be executrix of the estate, but she "absolutely relinquished her right of Executorships as also to take administration of ye deceased Estate... A commission of administration is granted William Edwards (as greatest Creditor) of the Estate of Thomas White, deceased..." [Surry Co., VA Wills & Administrations, p. 112].
Widow Phyllis White married Thomas Edwards after Thomas died.
