WHITE, REUBEN.

To All people to whom these presents shall come. Greetings.
I, Reuben White of the Parish of Saint David in Craven County
in the Province of South Carolina, Planter and surveyor, do make known and declare
and then know ye that I the said Reuben White for and in consideration of the love,
good will and affection I have and bear toward my sister in law Sophia White, wife
of my Brother William White of the same place, planter and the children she hath
had in marriage by him, and divers other good causes and considerations thereunto
me moving according to the rules of Justice and equity have given, granted and by
these presents do freely give and grant to the said Sophia White during her life
at her disposal, and after her decease to Mary the wife of George Hickman, Phobe
White, Sarah White, Betsy White, Taylor White, Ann White, Cary White, Anthony White,
Thomas White and Reuben White, their children now living by my said Brother
William White, all and several the following negroes, Viz. One negro fellow York,
one negro fellow Tony, one wench Cassandra, one wench Rachael, one boy March, one
boy Will, one boy Andrew, one boy Jupiter, one boy Scipio, one girl Sylvia, and
their increase, also all sorts of household goods mentioned. Implements of household
and implements of husbandrey and particularly six feather beds and furniture,
one desk, six chairs, one cupboard and crockery war, a parcell of pewter, one chest,
one had mill, one cross cut saw, one whip saw, one sett of cooper tools, one sett
of carpenters and all the plantation tools, fifty head of hogs marked with a swallow
fork and under bit in one year and two under bitts in the other with other marks,
four head of cattle of the same mark, one horse branded WB (?) one mare branded
R.2. one buttock and shoulder. The mare branded 3TW. One mare branded GG on the
buttock one rifler gun and smooth bore gun, six iron potts, one frying pan, one
skillet and all the singular other the goods and implements of household and
husbandry mentioned in a Bill of Sale made to me by the said William White and
dated 17 May 1771.
To have and to hold all the premises above mentioned to the said Sophia
White to her own use during her natural life with my said brother and state of
widowhood. But in case of her death or marriage in future to revert to the said
children, then their heirs, Exors, Admrs, or Assigns share and share alike forever
according to law in such cases.
And I the said Reuben White all and singular the
said premises to the said Sophia White and the said children and to them and their
heirs & assigns against all persons claiming or to claim to defiend by these presents.
And I have given her for that purpose identically to her the said Sophia White
full possession, property livery and seizen for herself and said children of the
whole premises forever, by delivering herexx one desk above mentioned part of the
said goods particularly mentioned husband therefrom, having taken all his debts
upon myself --
In witness whereof I have therunto set my hand and affixed my seal this the 13th
day of December, one thousand seven hundred and seventy three and in the 11th
year of his majesty's reign.
