St. Helena Parish LA was founded in 1810 (see present day map for location), and borders Mississippi.
Franklin Co. MS was formed on Dec 21, 1809 from the eastern part of Jefferson Co. and parts of Amite, Wilkinson and Adams Counties (see present day map for location).
According to W. W. Lambright's History of Franklin County, Mississippi From 1809-1899: "Among the first settlers of the county were John Porter, ..., John Ford, father of Mr. Jessie Ford, ... Joseph Porter [MSGW, website].
On Dec 13, 1835 in Franklin Co. MS Robert S. Holloway married Sarah Porter and they had 5 children.
In the 1816 Franklin Co. MS Census, page 5 (last line), there is a household headed by Joseph Porter, Robert's future father-in-law, with:
1 male over 21 (Joseph),
3 males under 21,
1 female over 21 (wife),
3 females under 21 (Jane b. 1807, Sarah b. 1813, ?)
and 5 slaves.
There was no household counted here for father Robert Holloway because in 1816 the family was living in St. Helena Parish.
In 1840 in Franklin Co. MS, "Sarah Hollaway, nee Porter, wife of Robert Holloway" was listed as one of the heirs of the estate of Nancy Porter, Dec'd [Hendrix, Miss. Court Records..., Drawer 73, Case #412].
In the 1841 Franklin Co. MS Census, page 5, last entry, "Robert Holaway" household had 3 males and 2 females.
Next to him was brother "George Holaway" with 5 males and 3 females.
Next to him was brother "J L Holaway" [James Lee] with 1 male and 1 female.

After Robert died around 1846, his children were given over to brothers and sisters. In the 1850 Franklin Co. MS Census dated Oct 8, son Virgil is listed as aged 12, born in MS, living in the household of Dempsey (Blacksmith aged 37 born MS) and Rebecca Cain, Robert's sister, (aged 33 born in LA). Son "Gustin", aged 8 born in MS, is listed in the same household [M.L. Ragland, pp. 9-10].
In Nov. 1850, daughter Amanda Jane, aged 13 born in MS, was living in the household of uncle James Lee Holloway in Ashley Co. AR [M.L. Ragland, pp. 9-10]. On Dec 12, 1852, she married Nicholas H. Trammell in Ashley Co. AR.
