Joseph married Mary when he was 16 and she was 14. The marriage ended in
divorce after they had three daughters. Both remarried. |

Joseph entered the armed service on Jul 10, 1942. He was a Navy CB
(Construction Battalion) in World War II, serving in the Marshall Islands,
Marianas, and finally in the Saipan Landings in the Pacific,
where, on Jun 26, 1944, he suffered a shrapnel wound to the head during the
battle. He was awarded a Purple Heart and three battle stars. |
