William is listed as Wm Clonts in the 1850 Burke County Census as a farmer, 57 years old in Sep 1850. His wife Mary's age is given as 49, and sons Alphonso (age 18) and Jeremiah (age 16) are listed as farmers.
Daughter Eva married James Murphy Kincaid (1819-1897), who in 1843 had previously married Mary Isabella Kincaid (1817-1864), daughter of William Winfield Kincaid. Eva had no children.
Son William Alphonso (Fonso) married Nancy Abernethy Kincaid, daughter of William Winfield Kincaid.
Alphonso and wife Nancy are buried at Mount Pleasant Methodist Church Cemetery in Chesterfield, NC. Tombstones.
Son Samuel enlisted at the age of 24 on Oct 7, 1861 in CSA as Pvt. Company F in 41st Regiment Cavalry for 12 months. Son Jonas was CSA Pvt. Company B NC 11th Infantry, when captured at Richmond Apr 3, 1865. Imprisoned at Libby until transfered to Newport News where he died of "debilitas" May 23, 1865.
William is buried at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church Cemetery in Chesterfield. Tombstone at the Mount Pleasant Methodist Church Cemetery in Chesterfield, NC. The tombstone gives age at death 79 years, 9 mos., 2 days.
