This Thomas Ward is likely the one from Lawnes Creek Parish in Surry County who, on Oct 9, 1707, bought from Robert & Elinor Monger, of the upper parish of Isle of Wight Co., 300 acres "on the north west side of the first swamp of the main Blackwater in the upper parish... and bounded by Huff Branch, Thomas Womble, Richard Gray and Highgate Hill Branch"; and then, on Feb 22, 1709, from George & Jane Moore of Isle of Wight Co., 100 more acres adjoining the previous purchase.
Thomas was the Executor of the will of his father-in-law, Francis Rayner, dated Sep 29, 1716, recorded Sep 28, 1719.
Isle of Wight County was originally known by an Indian name and became known as Isle of Wight in 1637 ( Map). Surry County, which borders to the northwest ( Map), was created from James City County in 1652.
