Member of House of Burgesses for Essex Co. VA 1769, 1770, 1772, and 1774.
Son Spencer Roane was Judge of Virginia Courts (General Court and Court of Appeals) from 1789 until his death in 1722. He was said to have been urged by Thomas Jefferson to run for Vice-President. He married Anne Henry, daughter of Patrick Henry (1736-1799), known for his Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Death! speech.
