Amelia Co. VA ( Map) was formed in 1734/5. In 1749 part of Henrico Co. ( Map) became Chesterfield Co. ( Map). The Pitchfords lived in this part of Henrico County.
In 1759, Samuel purchased land across the river from what became Petersburg VA.
About 1790, Samuel lived in Wake County, North Carolina, according to the first U. S. census. By 1795, Samuel had moved to Warren County NC to join relatives who had relocated to the Fishing Creek region where he was a cotton farmer. His brother Daniel moved nearby around 1800 and continued to farm cotton there until his death in 1822.
Son Sterling was a farmer and his family resided at a farm in Smith's Creek District in Warren Co.
