Charles is listed in John Smythe's roster of able-bodied men available for military
service, drawn up in 1608 for Lord Berkeley (Lord Lieutenant of Gloucester), as
"Charles Hoare, Sadler, [about 40 years of age], short in stature, suitable for
service with a caliver [ie., light musket or arquebus] and already trained as a
soldier." |
||||
|
Charles was a saddler. His son Charles was an apprentice and the executor of his
will of May 29, 1632. |
||||
|
Two of his daughters are mentioned in his will, but not by birth name. One married
Thomas Hill, Mayor of Gloucester in 1640 and the other married Leonard Tarne,
sheriff in 1630. |
