Known as Julius to family. In Germany, Julius was exempted from service in the army because of his height, 5 feet or 5'1". His father may have been Christian Feind, a soldier who died in Germany.
Stargard lies on the Ihna River in eastern Pomerania. It had a population of 22,000 in 1886. By the 20th Century only the gates remained from its strong fortifications. Arnswalde is 20 miles SE of Stargard.
Christian Julius Feind arrived Jul 7, 1869 in New York on the Coriolan from Bremen Germany with wife Wilhelmina, and 2 year old daughter Augusta, and settled in a log cabin in Helenville, Wisconsin.
