Jul 1, 1863 at the Battle of Gettysburg. |

In 1901, husband John was elected Graded School Tax Collector for Burke County and held the
position for the next 2 years. He was a member of the Graded School Board of
Education and was Treasurer of the Board 2 years. He was elected (Democrat)
Register of Deeds in 1906 and served 10 years. In 1919 he was appointed U.S.
Deputy Marshal and served until 1921. On Jun 1, 1922 he was made Superintendent
of Prison Camps and served almost 20 years without losing a single day. |

Eldest Daughters Pearl and Celeste did not marry. |

|
Daughter Mary married William Lee Curlee in 1913. Their son Bill died in the
Ringling Brother and Barnum & Bailey Circus Fire
in Hartford CT on July 6, 1944, but not before saving many lives.

Daughter Louise Victoria married Albert Francis Garrou (1893-1978). Both are buried
in the Waldensian Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Valdese, Burke Co. NC. His
grave includes a
placque with the inscription "Original Settler of Valdese". |

Daughter Jennie Gladys married Alfred A. Maffey. "Aunt Gladys" lived to be 102 years
old, living through the entire 20th Century. |

|
Daughter Ruth married John Dallas Brinkley (1905-1961) and lived in Valdes NC.
She is buried in the Waldensian Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Valdese. |

|
Daughter Celeste is buried in the
family gravesite in the
